Making Jelly for a Party

My ds1 is seven this next week and his birthday party is next weekend. I've got a big bowl and lots of different flavour jellies to make like a traffic light thing.

If I made the first jelly and put it in the fridge to set, then made another, let it cool and then poured it on top, repeating for each colour. Would that work? Not a big fan of making things and normally I get my mum do this sort of thing. Recent bereavements have left her not wanting to do anything so I'm really stuck.

Thanks in advance

Yes - I think this would work. There might be a little bleeding between colours, but most jellies work if you microwave the jelly cubes with 3tbsp water to melt and then make up with cold water to a pint, so the mixture should be cool enough to our straight away. Put a jug of water in the fridge or mix ice to make sure it's really cold to pour onto the melted jelly cubes to ensure it's nice and cold before pouring onto the already set jellies. Perhaps?

Thanks hausfrau, like the idea about standing it on it's edge so it's tilted. Catbert, I read somwhere that you only put 3/4 of a pint in your jelly mix so that it sets firmer for tipping out. God only know where I read that!

Okayk thanks for that. Will give it a try. Fingers crossed.

BTW how long does Jelly last for after it's been made?
