Help! 40th bday ideas

Dh and I both turning 40 next year so thinking of doing a joint party. There will be lots of kids around so thinking of an afternoon do. Was thinking of making it a seventies party as we were born then. Don't know where to start really. Function room in pub or village hall? Any ideas or inspiration gratefully accepted.

Hmmmmmmmm....I think the thing with an afternoon do is will people want to dress up in fancy dress 70s style etc? also with lots of kids around will it end up being a kiddy event rather than a grown ups 40th (and kids may not get the 70s thing). personally, I would make it an evening do and then people can have a drink, let their hair down and groove to the 70s vibe. Somehwere with a bar is a good idea unless you are planning to provide all the booze yourself. I had a live band at mine and it made the event - they were fab. also put as much as you can afford on the bar tab or if in village hall and they are allowed to serve alcohol then as much as you can provide.

If you are keen that it is afternoon - then you won';t need to provide as much drink and it will probably have a calmer atmospher but people won't really dance etc

depends what you want - think you need to think through the timing etc a bit more

I was the same, I started off with live band, dinner, cocktails blah blah - then narrowed it down to what I wanted. sounds like you want both a let your hair down adults event and a daytime family/kids event. you could of course always do both if you have the stamina!
