We appear to have filled another thread Shock

They've actually been here for a couple of days but DW hasn't responded to my text so I thought I'd try here.

I have been out and bought skin coloured paint and ribbons for the dress today along with skin coloured embroidery thread to wrap the arms in and some 'blonde' embroidery thread as I thought I'd have a go at giving ours curls like DD's.

DD insisted on helping me paint the dollies and then wanted to paint some pictures too. She's sobbed for most of the morning at Pre school I'm told so I put up with the mess as I'm feeling guilty.

stealthsquiggle · 19/09/2012 13:56

Poor little thing. I will have her dragon bag ready soon. Should I put her name on it ('tis spelt like mine, right?) - and should I put names on the rest, do you think?

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 19/09/2012 14:02

I was only kidding about you making her one! Shock Her name is spelt just like yours, 'tis the only way. I toyed with using the other common spelling but it just didn't look right to me.

She burst into tears and came racing across the room when I went to collect her and then cried on my shoulder for a while too. She's been smiling and happy ever since though and seems happy to go back on Friday - although she seemed happy to go in this morning too Confused One key worker said she'd been crying on and off and another - her key worker - said it had been pretty much constant all day. No-one rang so I was none the wiser while I was out perusing rainbow ribbons in hobbycraft and now I feel guilty.

stealthsquiggle · 19/09/2012 14:10

one more or less is not going to make any difference Grin

A dragon hug for DD

What do you think about names, generally?

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 19/09/2012 14:13

I think it would be lovely but I also think the bags would be absolutely amazing either way and you've already got a lot on your plate.

Maybe keep it as a last job and only do if you've got time? Is that possible or would you need to embroider the outer bag before you put the lining in?

stealthsquiggle · 19/09/2012 14:26

I was planning on doing names (if at all) with fabric paint, at the last minute, once I have all most of the responses.

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 19/09/2012 14:28

Ah good plan. In which case, I'd say go for it - but if you don't have time, it won't matter

Tinkerisdead · 20/09/2012 22:21

Hi hi cheebies. I've managed to get on the wifi in isle of wight. Signal is dropping in and out on my mobile. Blathers thanks for texting me about the dolly. I replied as soon as I got it so I'm really sorry if it was hanging in the ether somewhere.

Just wanted to say sorry your dd is sad at preschool. My dd started around 2.5 and she cried for weeks and I felt sick ESP as I was sending her for a break for me rather than necessity. What was worse is she'd see me at pick up and dissolve into sobs saying "just please take me home please please". It wrenched my guts out.

I don't need to tell you she'll be fine because that's irrelevant when your taking your child somewhere they find upsetting. Big big hug to you and her and hopefully things settle down. Maybe tell them to do dragon project to win her over! Now...tell me... What you doing with dolly?

I'm thinking a little tutu on mine and painted blonde hair. I know it's pipe cleaners for arms but how do I fix them on?

Blatherskite · 21/09/2012 13:03

She was fine today. Happy to go this morning although adamant that I would have to stay with her, was amazed when she didn't cry as I left but all was good. Phoned an hour later to be told that she was happy and playing in the garden - no tears. Picked her up at lunchtime to be told she hadn't cried all day - Hoorah!. She did almost crumble when she saw me at the door to collect her though and came running across the room shouting "Mummy, Mummy!" in a very wobbly voice but was then too excited showing me her new book bag to cry when she got to me so we got through the whole thing without tears today Grin Apparently, she's explored a lot more today so they think she's settling in now and hopefully things will start to get a little less fraught from now on in. She said they played with Dinosaurs today which are just wingless Dragons after all Wink

Our dolly has been painted skin colour and now has a face which I'm almost happy with and some painted on blonde hair, although I think I'm going to attempt covering it with embroidery thread hair to try to recreate DD's curls. I've bought tonnes of ribbon too and am going to attempt the rainbow dress from the picture. The pipe cleaner arms go through a little hole drilled in the body and there are teeny, tiny wooden ball hands to stick on the ends. I'm thinking I might make our arms out of wire coat hanger wrapped in skin colour embroidery thread though as I'd quite like to have her holding party balloons so they'll need to be stronger than the pipe cleaners.

Help guys! I've got a 'work' party to do. I need ideas for Mickey mouse crafts for 2-5 year olds. All I've got so far is Ears!

stealthsquiggle · 21/09/2012 21:01

Thinking about that one. Something will occur to me in the middle of the night

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 21/09/2012 21:42

It sounded easy when I agreed to it. Now I'm having to actually plan things, it's becoming harder!

Tinkerisdead · 21/09/2012 22:01

Does it have to be mickey?

I too was gonna give mine balloons but I'm thinking those polythene flower buds that you use in sugar craft might be light enough with florist/jewellery wire?

Tinkerisdead · 21/09/2012 22:01

I meant just mickey or is it a Disney playhouse type thing? Pluto? Minnie?

stealthsquiggle · 21/09/2012 22:01

Don't worry - I will get the subject specialist (Disney playhouse obsessed DD) onto it.

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 21/09/2012 22:05

You need blown eggs for balloons. Fact.

Tinkerisdead · 21/09/2012 22:07

Ooh ohhh forgot to tell you after seeing it on pinterest and various threads today I got an authentic elf on the shelf! There's a Christmas shop here on this gorgeous isle. Sent dh to snaffle him up whilst dd1 chose a decoration of two kids in a stocking which the Christmas lady wrote their names on the little model hats.well chuffed.

Tinkerisdead · 21/09/2012 22:08

Blown eggs. Faint.

No way I want this to survive!

stealthsquiggle · 21/09/2012 22:41

Blown eggs are really quite strong - a teeny bit of fimo on the bottom to make the neck of the balloon, and a wire. Sorted. I will link to my balloon cake when not on my phone.

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 22/09/2012 07:56

I think eggs might be too big to be honest. The balloon would be double the size of her head!

Blatherskite · 23/09/2012 21:55

I don't suppose anyone has come up with any good Mickey Mouse related crafts yet have they? I'm really struggling

Tinkerisdead · 23/09/2012 23:13

Your meant to be telling us is it just mickey allowed or other characters?

My dad has sent me some proofs of the rapunzel invites and i'm excited!!
Ive got to make a christening cake in three weeks, pascals costume, the party decor and start that dolly when blathers sends her to me.

Right as i cant sleep mickey ideas it is... Hold on...
