Ideas for a small party for six year old girls?

We'll be having a small ish party for our DD who will be 6 - just seven or so friends (all girls I think) at our house. Had enough of inviting the entire class type thing so want to keep it small! But would love to do something special for them all and avoid the whole pass parcel/thinking up zillions of random party games. Any good ideas on things they could do beyond the usual cake decorating type stuff would be most welcome! It'll be at start of April so weather might be good enough to go in garden, but then equally it could snow ...

we did build a bear at home, i used an online company adn there were 8 children at the party, i bought kits that consisted ofa bear, the stuffing a birth certificate and a box like the build a bear factory ones, they start at about £5 each on the site i got them from. then i got a plain t-shirt for each bear and fabric pens so the kids decorated them. they all had a ball and it meant no party bags as they each had their bear to take home iwth them adn they had a little birthday tea as well with snacks and cake etc :)

i used this site www.bearfactoryparties.co.uk/ and really recomend them, they were great and friends of mine have used them as well and loved them!

Are they the type of girls who would be happy sitting and doing crafty things? If so, Bakerross have some fab ideas.
Alternitively a treasure hunt, bear hunt, teddy bears picnic type affair.

We decorated fairy houses. For dd1 (5 girls) I got mini birdhouses, cut doors in them, painted them and they decorated. For dd2 (20) we used ikea plastic plates with mini pails on. Bits to decorate were some sparkly things, feathers, twigs, moss, pine cones, shells etc gathered in woods. You could make fairy houses from anything which can be a base and a small container. The girls loved it, took 25 min at big party and 45 min at small party. Food was mini sandwiches, mini jammie dodgers, mini cakes etc.

There are tons of ideas on The Party Pirate. There Secret Party Address Book has loads more too. Good luck x

Definitely crafty stuff, assuming your DD is into that sort of thing.

You could look for something equivalent to this in your area, or do your own with kits - like these, for example.
