Is it strange to ask the godparents before the baby is born?

DD is due in June and we are hoping to have her christened in August. DP works away so if we don't have it in August it wont be until November or December.

A couple who we really want to be godparents live very far away from us and have got quite a few pets so need to organise a house sitter etc. So asking them at the end of June might be pushing it really.

So we thought about asking them now so they have got plenty of time to organise it at their end.

Is it strange?

I was asked to be a godparent when my friend was still pregnant, I didn't think it was strange at all, was just really chuffed to be asked
