Dd2 is in reception, her 5th birthday is after half term and we have booked a hall. It will be a fairy + goblin party. Her two best friends at school are boys, and she wants another boy to come too. There are two girls invited from ballet. There are 12 other girls in her class, whenever I ask her who she has played with it is just the boys. We said that really if she wanted to invite more than 8 of the girls she probably should invite all of them (esp as the two she didn't want are the two who have known her longest!). This morning she said maybe she would invite all the girls.

Now I am worried about the boys being too outnumbered, potentially 15 girls to 3 boys. I know that above all she will want her two best friends to come. She doesn't like lots of noise and always looks a bit apprehensive at her parties, so I am reluctant to go above 18; but the hall will seem cavernous with many less than 13. (will also have ds(2) and dd(7) with her friend. Do I hope that some girls can't come and add some more boys? We are doing fairy houses - bug houses for boys, otherwise trying to make games not too girly. Would it bother the average 4.5 yr boy?

THe boys will just want to charge about killing things or fighting each other Grin Unless you're fully prepared I'd stick at what you've got Wink

At that age I really don't think it matters. DS had mostly boys, and about 3 girls at his 4th birthday party. I don't think any of the kids noticed or cared to be honest.

That's a good point Seeline; dd2 will probably join in killing games too given half a chance, 4 killing vs 14 fairies are fairly good odds that the guests will be returned unharmed!
