New Year's Eve - want to do something different

For once, DH has the 3 days off over New Year. We can't decide what to do. We are me, him & 2 dds aged 12 and 14.

We live in South Wales, not averse to going away for a couple of days if it doesn't cost too much & not too far. Don't fancy going out for a meal, or going out to the pub. Seems so depressing to sit indoors watching TV.

Anyone got any interesting ideas? What do you do on N Y eve?

We used to go to the theatre on New Year's Eve before DCs and are planning to reinstate the tradition this year. We
go up to London so it felt more of a treat. Anything on in Cardiff?

I think Oliver is on in Cardiff, I don't know if I fancy it...don't really know what I want to do. Have been toying with going away for a couple of nights, but not sure.

Our dc are a similar age. We are going for a Chinese meal and coming home for evening of board games. We don't often sit down all together for a game, so am hoping it will be a pleasant evening.

After googling and deliberating we are going to have a time zone new years party. Our children are 2, 4 and 6; so too little to go out, stay up til midnight and too expensive to get babysitter.

We are going to celebrate at 6 when some parts of India pass into 2012, with a curry, then have some party games, anyone still up at 10 can join in a toga party with some greek snacks. Going to round it off with an american breakfast. Will try to see appropriate fireworks on news 24 as we go through the evening.

Any other ideas for country related party games from 7-10? Can only think of russian roulette, but hopefully won't need that!
