What do godparents generally buy for (male) godchild?

We are going to be godparents and this will be our first godchild (12 mo boy).

When our own children were christened, people generally bought them toys (which was fine by us). I think that our friends are a bit more traditional and would prefer something a bit more meaningful! I am not sure what to get, can anyone tell me what they liked when their DC were christened? Just to add that he has an older sister so they already have little bits and pieces like bible story books etc so I didn't want to duplicate for younger DC.

We got some wonderful things for DS, some ideas

A wooden height chart
A child's chair with his name on
Silverware (spoons etc but also things like a corkscrew for later!)
A lovely toy box
Classic books like complete Winnie the Pooh
Premium bonds
And one lovely friend made his christening cake if you are at all artistic!

Oh and some wooden bookends, they were good too

My DS's godfather gave him this book which now he is 2yo we do look at together.

He also received a children's Bible, silver key ring and a "Grace dice".

The latter is a wooden dice with a different simple prayer to say before meals. The idea being that the child rolls it to choose which prayer gets said before meals. I plan on starting to use it when DS is a bit older when we have our family Sunday meal.

(Btw, should that be a "Grace die"??!)

SES what a lovely and unusual idea, the Grace dice!

DS also got some really nice bible stories, eg Noah's ark and some prayer books, but nobody got him an actual children's bible, which I would've liked, so I will get at some point.

I was also going to suggest cutlery. My son had some WMF cutlery a bit like this . It was excellent quality and he used it for years
