Party ideas for a 9yr old boy?

My ds is going to be 9 this year and, after the hell that was his 8th birthday, I will not be having his 'friends' in my house for his next birthday!

Any suggestions? There will a maximum of 4 boys (including ds). I'm desperately hoping that they'll be a bit calmer this year but I fear I'm deluding myself Grin.

All suggestions welcome!!

Would they enjoy going to a local children's petting farm? You could have a picnic and they could run around too.

Take them to cinema? swimming then tea out? camping Grin I know you don't want them at yours but if you have a garden they could camp out there, so any mess is outside?

I think a farm might be too 'babyish' for them. I think ds would probably enjoy it but wants to be cool infront of his mates who would gladly spend their days playing computer games.

Swimming might be an option. Now they're 9, I could probably sit on the side and watch rather than get in the pool with them. Then I could take them out for lunch afterwards and drop them all home on the way home! I like this plan very much - I'll run it by ds later - thanks!!

Yes I see what you mean, both mine, age 10 and 13, love farm days out. But I can see how even though he'd love it he may feel a bit uncool?

I used to have parties at Rail museums sometimes, and take a picnic. We've done allsorts really.

Have you got a laser quest type place near you? My DS thinks that it is 'the coolest thing ever'! Grin

Near where we live is a scalextrix track - a large 8-lane track set up in an industrial unit. We had DS's 10th & 12th birthday parties there (10 boys + their dads). They play scalextric (heats + finals) & get pizza in half-way through.

Best bit is that DH does it all.

If you're interested in looking up where laser tag/laser quest venues are for parties you could try Laser Arena www.laserarena.co.uk

They list venues all over the country. No way to review them of course... and based on my own experiences some care for their equipment and parties while others do not.....

If you have a specific area I can suggest nearest venues and my experience of them.
