What did you do for your 40th???

My 40th is in May (eeek!) Have sent friends a 'save the date' email for the Sat night closest to my bday but can't decide what to do - a big girly night out - meal, poss dancing after? Theatre? Or a civilised (ish) party at our house with OHs?? If so, who to invite?! Can't decide! We don't have family close by to babysit... Am going away with dh for a weekend as well at some point...
Have thought about it so much that just can't think what would be best and most fun...

my friend had a few of us go a theme park and "relive our youth" during the day then it was out for a meal on the evening and a drinks. we all had kids and didnt want it to be a late night.

stayed in by myself (well, with DCs in bed) and had cereal for dinner - DH was away with work
had some friends round for dinner a couple of weeks later and also went for pub lunch the sunday before with DH & DCs, but that's pretty much it! We moved recently and don't have enough space to put everyone up so couldn't really have a party as people would have had to fork out for a hotel, plus it's in Jan & everyone's skint & not in the party mood
Am having same dilemma about who to invite for DHs. Family or just friends? And different sets of friends or just ones who know each other so it's 'easier'...

If I was you I'd have a girly night out and then another night have a civilized drinks or dinner at your house so your DH (and maybe family?) could feel included
