How do you celebrate Easter?

I love Easter time almost as much as Christmas. We have family over, decorate the house with a few 'Eastery' bits and bobs that I've bought over the years and have a nice big roast on Easter Sunday.

Do you do anything special or is it just a nice long weekend?!

I like trying to make more of Easter. I have some decorated eggs on ribbons that I hang up and I try to fill the house with flowers, too.

Easter Sunday lunch is always lamb in some form or another.

I think it's a nice excuse to celebrate the arrival of spring and have some special family time. It's not a religious event for us, but then Christmas isn't either.

On Easter Thursday the DDs and I go hunting for an Easter Tree (branch) then we bring it home and put it in a plant pot (painted yellow and green years ago) then we decorate it with little paper easter eggs and ribbons. On Friday we boil and paint eggs for Sunday's egg hunt, Saturday is normally organising lunch etc for post egg hunt on Sunday, Sunday we do church, egg hunt, lunch and a big walk. Monday we have a movie/pj day waiting for DH to come home as he works away Easter every year.

We find an Easter Tree (a fallen branch) by Palm Sunday and put it where the Xmas Tree usually stands, embedded in a plant-pot of heavy pebbles, and decorate it with eggs and ribbons and chicks, and cuddly Easter animals at the bottom. We also have larger Easter rabbits that we put by the front door or hang in the doorway windows.

We attend lots of church services from Maunday Thursday on, passover meals, Stripping of the Alters, vigils, walks of witness, Good Friday meditation, Easter Day. We only eat Hot Cross Buns from Passion Sunday on (the Sunday before Palm Sunday). We make Easter cakes and biscuits and decorate eggs. Easter Day first thing there is an Easter Egg hunt around the house following clues left by the Bunny; we usually have lamb or chicken and for pudding, the Russian orthodox dessert pashka, made to a friend's recipe.

Easter Monday, there's always stuff to do at church - we serve cake and tea for all visitors to our town - so we do that most of the day, and then take off for a couple of days down to family.
