Something interesting and challenging and different! I want to do a party with a few different games. Having it at home and plan to have 4 small groups of girls aged 6 or 7.

I want them to have fun and to have to think a bit. Am thinking of problems/games that last about 10 minutes ish. Does anyone feel inspired? Please share, ideas welcome!

build tallest stable structure with one newspaper and one roll sellotape

tangrams - you know the use the 7 shapes to make a picture, sure if you google you could print some off

identify foodstuffs by smell only - put in polystyrene cups with material held over the top by an elastic band - eg coffee, curry, peppermint, lemon...

how about a wordsearch or crossword - very easy one?

oooh! The tangrams look fun - just found some Easter bunny ones to do.

I love all of your ideas, thanks, it's got me started. Anyone else?

Something I used to enjoy from my parties when I was little: my mum would put lots of different objects on a tray, let us all look at them for say, 2 mins, then cover them up. We then had to write a list of all the things we could remember. The one who remembered the most was the winner. Not really problem-solving, but...

Everyone sits in a circle and puts their left hand on the floor. Everyone then puts their right hand over top of the person next to them's (left) hand.

You then go around the circle and they have to tap the floor in the order that their hands are on the floor, IYSWIM. Much harder than it sounds!

Give each child a card with either a dog, cow, sheep or cat, they must not show anyone else what animal they have. They must then find the rest of their group, but only by making the noise of the animal.

I'll keep thinking Grin
