My little boy will be one next month (GASP!!). Unfortunately we don't really have any family around or very good friends with babies/children. So we thought to gather our efforts together with another couple that we met at ante-natal and celebrate our babies 1st b'day together in their flats. I'll also invite couple of mums I met at baby groups and maybe a neighbour with her 2 toddlers (whom hopefully won't get too bored). What do people do at baby's b'day parties?

First birthday is for the parents to celebrate getting through the first year imo! So Champagne and cake for the adults and nothing much for the babies!

Just let the babies play with their normal toys and enjoy yourself.

We had loads of friends over for ds' first birthday - ony one other toddler there!! Me and dh saw it more as a celebration of surviving the 1st year still intact (and married - lol). We had lots of kids party food anyway - cheese and pineapple on sticks etc, and hats and balloons to get everyone in the swing of it. And most importantly, lots of vodka and wine!! Beware of the candle though - ds made a grab for his cake and slightly singed his finger . Also I was so busy enertaining our guests that in the photos there are none of me holding ds (as everyone else was) which upset me a liitle - I would have liked to have been holding him in the cake photos but unfortunately MIL was

you can do pass the parcel with a 1yr old do it with them its cool, ds loved it. Do lots of jally and ice cream, lots of kids music, few nibbles for adults and some pick foods for kids. Don't forget to lat them blow out their candles too.

We had ds's last week and it was great.
