We will have about 12-15 children aged 4-7. We have a big garden for outdoor games.

I'm really stuck for ideas though - will do a cake with a Superman style 'S' emblem on it (but with DS's initial instead).

Would they enjoy a dress up relay where they had to put on underpants, cape and mask, then run, then swap the costume with a team mate? Or would that be too tricky for the little ones (could have parents on hand to help).

Might do mask decorating...

Other ideas please...???

:)

Dare you do silly string - it's a bit Spidermanny?

Astrophe · 10/02/2011 01:02

Blush I don't really know anything about spider man - and tbh neither does DS! He'd not really into any particular super hero charactor, just the concept of super heros in general, with mighty powers...

sorry - I'm pants at this too, but what about this?

get someone artistic to draw a life size superhero on some lining paper or similar.

cut out speech bubble shapes and write Zap, pow, boom etc on them.

then do a kind of pin the tail on the donkey thing with prize for child getting nearest the mouth.

magical statues where when the music stops they have to adopt superhero poses?

Hunt the bomb - hide 5 balls (pretend they are bombs hidden by bad guys) in the garden and get your superheros to use their super powers to find them?

Dance to obviously!

Also, fly around/march/generally jump up and down to

Like the sound of the dressing up relay Smile

'Don't drop the Kryptonite' (keeping a balloon up in the air)

For food, star shaped sandwiches (with cookie cutter), 'Batman's Brew' (any kind of drinks), 'Kryptonite' (jelly/ice lollies/ice cream/pretty much anything).

HTH!

Thank goodness for this thread- I too have a 5 yr old wanting a superhero party! We're making capes and badges as the first activity. I'm still contemplating food though. Great idea re stars sandwiches. Am definately going down the kryptonite jelly too. I found some superhero cake toppers on eBay here and a spiderman cake top if i get desperate. What are you doing for plates etc?

Astrophe · 23/02/2011 23:48

heres what we've decided to do:

Invitations: Printed of the 'superman' crest/logo in colour, DC cut them out and stuck them onto coloured cards.

Costumes: we asked people to come dressed as their "favourite super hero or their own Super Alias" - that waye people don't have to go out and buy expensive costumes for their kids if they don't own them - just a cape will do).

Decorations: will either just do normal coloured balloons, or may go with red/blue/yellow as superman theme colours (not that DS has ever seen superman! He does recognise him though).

Cups/plates: I got sick of buying and throwing away plastic party ware a couple of years ago, and so we now own 20x childrens ikea cups and plates. Not bothered about co-ordinating as the kids don't notice anyway!

Games: Have cut it down to a few -

Obstacle course - kids have to put on a cape and mask, then run and leap over a "tall building" (cardboard box painted to look like sky scraper), then run and lift some heavy weights (ppier mache or black balloons on ends of stick) 10 times, then climb a (step) ladder and rescue a damsel (soft toy), then use their super powers to open a box with a pirze inside (chocolates).

Pinata - DS's favourite game ever. We will just tell them to use their super powers to break it, or, if they'd prefer, a stick.

Musical Super heros - we have the supeman music on a "classi FM at the movies' cd. every child gets a little prize when they get out, winner gets a more substantial prize.

Food - am not bothering with theme I've decided, as am too knackered with this pregnancy and I don't think the kids will really notice. Will cook mini pizzas, and do sandwiches, water melon and grapes, and a crisp/crackers/crudites and dip platter.

Party bags - have bought some superhero magnets/erasers/sharpeners etc, each child will have one of them, a balloon and a few sweets.

Done!
Intitations went out on Monday! Hope it sdoesn't rain...

Thanks for all your help :)
