Friend needs to "dress to impress"

Hi, I know you lot will come up with some good ideas! God friend has been invited to a 50th party and invite says
"COME DRESSED TO IMPRESS"!
As they live on the beach, she is thinking nautical, any ideas other than mermaid(hard for dancing) pirate etc. Thanks.

I think dress to impress does NOT mean fancy dress, rather it means dressed up. Not black tie, but getting to that level

no - I wouldn't have read that as fancy dress either - I think it means "get your gladrags on!!!"
