40th birthday help!

MY DH is turning 40 this year and I really need some help to do something special or unusual for him on the day itself.

problem 1 is that his birthday is on new years eve, and problem 2 is that I will be 8 months pregnant!

he has already decided to have a "boys weekend" away later in the year to celebrate his 40th which I think is a great idea.

he doesnt want a big party on the day itself and I will not be up for entertaining loads of people anyway. as it is NYE, going out just the two of us is not really a practical option as hard to get a babysitter. family live a long way away and we will have seen them over xmas, and so are just planning to have a couple of friends round in the evening for a low key night in.

I would like to do something special for him to mark the day, perhaps something that we could do in the daytime with the DCs. we are within reach of London. I have also got no idea what to buy him as he is the type to buy anything he wants for himself.

help!

How up for dressing up etc are your friends? You could do a 1960 themed evening for him. Everyone comes in 60's dress. Music from the year would be easy to get. Also get some newspaper pages from the year, photocopy and enlarge to use as table decorations/ hang on the wall

Omg!! How stupid am I??? I did pass maths honestly! If he's 40 it will be 1970!! Not a 1960 party, duh! I need to go get my coffee
