4th birthday party - what kind of food would you expect?

have to decide if we go for catering or self-catering.
will only be 10 kids plus parents plus a few baby siblings.
2-4 o'clock.
would fingerfood and a cake be fine?
I guess at this age they just want to run around anyway and not sit still to eat?

Of course. At that age DD was less interested in food and more interested in racing around like a dervish playing nicely with her friends.
Self catering, TBH, you dont need much. You are providing a snack and some cake, not a meal.

finger food - i.e. small sandwiches, mini sausages, carrot sticks, baby toms, fairy cakes, chocolate crispy cakes, crisps, twiglets etc, would be my choice at that age.

thanks ladies, that is just what I wanted to hear. the venue wants 10£ for catering per person, which is a bit much for juice and finger foods...

Just had DD's 4th birthday party - 22 3 and 4 year olds. They played for 1.5 hours then ate for the last half hour. They are mostly all from the same pre-school and have pretty good manners, listen well and are used to sitting down to eat together.

I did a paper bag for each child which contained: ham roll, marmite sandwich, cheese sandwich (all v small), box of raisins, chopped pepper & carrot sticks, grapes, Hula Hoops, Club biscuit. Then handed out crispy cornflake chocolate things.

For drinks I wanted sports cap bottles - could not bring myself to provide Fruit Shoots in case of MNetters!!! So I gave them bottles of water and no one complained it wasn't juice. Some wanted a drink during the play time so figured sports cap the way to go, wrote their names on in marker pen so we knew which was which.

Have a good party!

you can provide as much healthy food as you like but it never gets eaten...

I would do some sandwiches, crisps and biscuits.
