How much would you pay for cake????

I am thinking of packing in my old jobs, or at least going part tome since the arrival of dc4. I am thinking of doing cupcakes for parties but have only got one shop to compare prices with. I obviously need to figure out if this is going to be a viable financial alternative for me before I speak to work etc etc. I have been making cupcakes just for friends for a while with everyone telling me I should sell them but honestly how much would you be prepared to pay 'for a cake'??? I would be particularly interested to hear opinions from the North of England, many thanks in advance xxx

They would have to be pretty special for me to buy them because knocking up cupcakes is quick, cheap and easy. Soooo, on the assumption that they are really beautiful, tasty, nicely decorated cupcakes in nice packaging with excellent service, I would pay about a pound a cupcake, but possibly a bit more for smaller quantities (£1.50 for an individual cupcake) and a discount for larger quantities (£16 for 20 cupcakes).

I am not basing that on anything useful, just what I would pay.

And, as I say, they would have to be pretty special.

There is a cupcake stall in my local shopping centre which sells the cakes for £1.85. I've never bought one because it seems like an awful lot of money for one little cake. They always seem to have customers though.

In my local market there is a place that does lovely cupcakes, very nicely decorated and they do 4 for £5. They are about £1.30/40 each I think.

They also do huge cupcakes to use as birthday cakes.

I wouldn't buy cupcakes as they are so easy to make. But I once did buy a very expensive sculpted birthday cake from Jane Asher's place in London ... this was clearly a one off, but it was beautiful and delicious.
