Pop star fancy dress for 5 and 7 year old girls

My dds (aged 7 and 5) have been invited to two popstar-themed parties, at which they are asked to dress as their favourite popstar. So, what can they wear?

I can't sew/make an outfit from scratch but I'd like to put together something with items we already have or that can be bought cheaply on ebay. And I don't want them dressed in a sexualised way at that age.

They don't really have a favourite popstar as such. Any ideas?

How long is their hair? Could they crossdress with toy guitars, jeans and check shirts as McFly types? Or HSM cheerleaders? Could you lay your hands on enough frogging on a red top to fake a Cheryl Cole military jacket (I think H&M sell them maybe, but that would be a big purchase), and a hat made of cardboard (but without a bondage leotard underneath)?

DD1 has a short bob and dd2 has very fine shoulder length hair. I don't think they'd want to crossdress; cheerleaders might be more their style.
