DS2 is 5 on Sunday and we have the entertainer sorted (2 whole hours!) but I'm doing all the food and have to clean up Anyway, It's for 20 + kids and I thought I'd do little sandwiches etc.. but wondered if any mners had some ideas for the rest of the food or could recommend a good book? TIA

two lots of sandwiches, one brown one white (choose from jam, marmite, egg, honey, ie nothing fancy) and cut them with biscuit cutters into shapes if you can be arsed. choc mini rolls, crisps, twiglets, apple/orange juice, wotsits, iced ring biscuits, bowl of grapes and obviously the cake (shop bought if you're anything like me)

Old Anabel Karmel has some good ideas in her toddler food book - the jelly boats were huge hit - cut oranges in half, empty out orange flesh, fill with jelly, let firm, cut in half again, stick in cocktail stick with paper sail...

GhostofNatt · 30/08/2005 17:24

I also like a 70s-retro grapefruit stuck with cocktail sticks with bits of cheese, pickled onions etc

bundle · 30/08/2005 17:25

sticks no good as they stab each other with them.

GhostofNatt · 30/08/2005 17:26

So you would think, bundle, but nto if you provide a selection of more attractive weapons for that purpose. Actually you do have to take the sails out as you serve the jellies...

GhostofNatt · 30/08/2005 17:27

And have not actually braved the grapefruit but my mum did it for every party we ever had, [nostalgic sigh]

bundle · 30/08/2005 17:27

weapon free zone i'm afraid

GhostofNatt · 30/08/2005 17:30

Was sort of kidding about the weapons

A big bowl of cherry tomatoes is a good way of distracting attention from fact that you have arguably provided too much sugar...

cheers for the tips, it's been a while since I catered myself. The party's at the Railway museum and I've hired a room then they can go round museum afterwards. I think I will do some sarnies as there'll be adults there too so they can finish them off. There isn't a cooker in the kitchen so chips are out but I could do some pizza.
