team games - split in to 2 teams

over and under - stand in line one behind the other
pass ball or balloon over had of firts person in team, then under legs of next person, then back over head of next until at end of line
person at back run to front and start again
repeat until person who started off at front is at the front again - first team back is the winner

that the type of thing you mean?

The put on of hats scarves gloves etc and eat chocolate with a knife and fork game?
Pass the parcel with silly forfeits instead of sweets(run around the circle barking etc)

SerendipityAlways · 27/08/2010 13:55

too late to arrange a treasure hunt? 2 teams of 5, select a word, hide each letter in a different place in the garden. First clue leads to first letter, where there is a clue to the second etc.

First team to find all the letters and rearrange them into the word wins

Thanks crumpet you're a star!!

string game - 2 teams, 2 balls of string/wool with key tied on the end

race to pass string up clothes of person one, down person 2 (just top layer obv) until all people in team attached

obstacle races, depends on how big your garden is, but start off hopping to point x, then throw ball into bucket/hoop whatever, then walk backwards, then walk on hands, then run all the way to back of team

relay egg and spoon/3 legged/wheelbarrow races

These arent exactly party games, but when we had the end of year class party at the school i work in (9 and 10 year olds), they completely loved these -

  • Dance off (in a cicle, pick any two to start dancing to music (usually the most confident). Everyone cheers for their fave and then the other sits down, and someone else is chosen. Carries on until the 2 best dancers are dancing and they become the winners! Obv u need good music for this 2!)
  • Britains got talent style - this worked well cos we had 30 children so they split into groups n came up with acts and then performed. Then you (or a panel - eg the ones who didnt wanna play) can judge the winners n runners up etc!
  • Catwalk - they were all in their own clothes for the party anyway so basically involved strutting up and down the room to the rite sort of music, as if they were fahsion models! They didnt wanna stop!

I know it's no use for this party now but I just remembered one we did at Guides that was good fun and easy to set up. Each team gets a colour, and they have to go around the garden finding as many team-coloured stickers as they can (they were the tiny round dots sold in stationers). They could be stuck anywhere from a bike frame to a tree trunk. After a set time the ones with the most stickers won. The little dot labels are cheap and come in packs of about a million... I just recall that it was quite lively and energetic and lots of fun being a simple treasure hunt :)
