I am just finalising plans for dc's 3rd birthday - first party he's had thrown for him and only 2nd proper party he's been to.

We have a huge hall, and I am thinking of filling with lots of toys borrowed from friends/toy library/back garden and letting the kids run riot and play. We will stop for a snack half way through the party and then back to the toys or possibly something else?

So Questions

1, Does that sound ok?
2, After snack do you think parachute games would go down well - have a large parachute in the shed we could use
3, Do you think I could get away with having a craft t able - only basic collage ie make a face mask with glue, eyes and mouths?
4, Do I have to do party games? I have got some prizes and am debating making a pass the parcel.

Anything I've forgotten.

Everything you've suggested sounds great to me.

You definitely don't need to do party games - they don't work well at this age. One of my worst party memories is a load of 3yos tantruming after being told they had to leave the toys to pay pass the parcel. A horrible game for little ones IMO - they don't understand about passing it on. They don't really get winners and losers either so you'll have tears unless you do that ridiculous thing where everyone gets a prize.

Parachute games will be popular as long as it's not compulsory to join in (mums of small children can get stressed when theirs refuse to join the "fun" Blush )

Same with the craft table, but not necessary unless you want to make work for yourself.

Balloons and/or bubbles to chase are always popular and make it a bit more party-like, rather than just playing iyswim

I was thinking of getting a bubble machine for the last bit of the party.

With the size of the hall there will be space for some to do parachute play and others not to - although hopefully some of the aprents will help with the parachute Grin

Again craft table will just be in the corner and the kids can either do it - or do all the other things going on :)

Bubble machine good idea
and craft table
you could not bother with loads of toys and just hire a bouncy castle
