Hello all

We are having a small family party for my sons 4th birthday in a few weeks.
I am 7 weeks pregnant and feeling sick and exhausted - am going to make individual picnic/lunch boxes for the kids, but am a bit stuck for what to make for the grown-ups.

Ideally, something in one big pot that could be made in advance with some bread/snacky things alongside. We did Chilli last time and have done curry before so would love to hear some new ideas. One idea was chicken noodle soup with prawn crackers and dim sums - don't know if this is a good idea or just my cravings talking!

Your ideas sound much better than what I would do which is just do a huge green salad and put together an enormous cheese board with nice bread and pickles etc. However, enormous cheeseboard if your pg might not be the best idea - all that yummy brie and stilton that you can't eat...

Yes novicemama - I would be drooling everywhere! I do like the idea of a big platter of something though - that would be easy to do.

what about joint of gammon roasted with nice breads, salads pickles etc

I would have gone for a big cheeseboard, chopped up french stick and bunch of grapes.

If something hot needed baked potatoes are easy with a selection of fillings - grated cheese, prawns in marie rose sauce, chille etc.

Pizzas - or would the kids be too jealous?
