The old thread has filled up and no one noticed - I think we're missing @oblomov26 sharp eyes!

I've tried to tag in everyone I can think of, but apologies to anyone I've missed!

DS is home and we're all adjusting to having a full house again. Cereal boxes are left open on the kitchen top, fresh meat left open in the fridge and spillages aplenty on kitchen top. No marks released yet, and DS is till job hunting. @NCTDN It is frustrating. DS went for one interview (final stage) he was shown round the whole office, lady on reception told him, 'I won't be surprised to see you back again on Monday', to which ds thought getting 'the call' was just a formality. Never heard from them again! We can only keep encouraging them keeping our own disappointment well hidden.

Aslockton · 07/07/2026 20:38

@Piggywaspushed How did your DS’s interview go? Was it online or in person?

Piggywaspushed · 07/07/2026 20:40

Online. Yet to hear! Journalism interviews seem to be rolling. They interview as applications come in. He has another one on Friday.

NCTDN · 07/07/2026 21:06

Graduation day tomorrow for DD 😊

Piggywaspushed · 07/07/2026 22:04

Enjoy! Hope it's not too unbearably hot.

Seeline · 07/07/2026 22:40

Hope you all have a lovely day @NCTDN

craggyrat · 08/07/2026 09:13

Have a lovely day @NCTDN - gorgeous weather for it

AnneOfCleavage · 08/07/2026 09:33

Have a great day at the graduation @NCTDN

Hope DS hears soon @Piggywaspushedand that Friday goes well too.

DD not had results yet but her graduation isn’t till Sept so that’s probably why.
Has everyone done Gradintelligence (or whatever it’s called) to get their transcripts? Only just heard of this and asked DD who said something about emails about it but she’s ignored it not knowing what it’s for. Any ideas?

Shimy · 09/07/2026 13:11

Another 2:1 here, DS is very dissapointed but i think its great, hes done very well.

crazycrofter · 09/07/2026 13:46

Well done to ds @Shimy ! It's hard if you're borderline, as not getting a first then feels like a failure, but he's done really well !

Well done to your DS @Shimy !

Shimy · 09/07/2026 14:39

Thanks. Piggy good luck to your DS.

Comefromaway · 09/07/2026 15:05

A 2:1 is fantastic. I know it can be disapointing if he thought hemight get a 1st but it's still a great achievment.

Just back from dh's Masters graduation. A 5 hour journey to Wales and back! It was a hot day. Unfortunately it meant we couldn;t see ds MDing in the Theatre Festival at his conservatoire but it went well and he is very excited about the future of the piece.

He's moved into his new house which wasn;t without issues such as the cleanres not having been in to clean and various other things but hopefully it is getting sorted.

He hasn't got much work on at the moment. Playing in an orchestra for a wedding next month and then nothing until panto but he says he has been so busy recently that few weeks off won't hurt.

Piggywaspushed · 09/07/2026 15:54

Agree a 2:1 is great. So much talking down of academic excellence goes on in wider society , amongst students themselves and - natch- on MN!

Decorhate · 10/07/2026 16:16

Ds finally got his grade through (less than 2 weeks to graduation). His is a 2.1 also which is what he was expecting.

AnneOfCleavage · 10/07/2026 16:50

Congratulations on great results to DC @Shimyamd @Decorhate
and congrats to DH on masters graduation too - is that the end of uni and studying in your household @Comefromaway? Was there a recording done at the theatre festival that you can watch?

DD spent the day in her new school sorting paperwork and looking at curriculum plans etc. Has a form to request cover to go to her own graduation so she’s hoping that’s easy enough - it’s two weeks later from starting the new term so hopefully not too disruptive for the children. Still not got her lanyard and term ends next week and she’s not due in again. She’s also not met her ECT mentor or know what’s expected of her paperwork wise. It’s so hot and it’s end of term so guess they’re all a bit jaded understandably. The head brought in ice coffees for the staff which was so thoughtful - last week it was calippos 😊

Lentilcakes · 10/07/2026 19:44

Congrats to @Shimyand @DecorhateDCs!!

We had DS’s graduation yesterday- it was lovely but very hot - he insisted on keeping his jacket on all day (ceremony was at 10.30 followed by a faculty reception) until we went for lunch at 2pm!!

The Reception was the best part as it was more relaxed for all of us, and we met some of his course mates and their parents.

He’s applied for one job which he heard about through word of mouth (hadn’t heard back yet), but he said he’ll start applying properly this week - he’s already engaging w a local careers service and has a couple of workshops to attend and a friend of our has very kindly arranged for him to have a couple of days’ WE where he works (relevant industry) in a few weeks so a few bits in the pipeline!

Having the adult DC at home is a challenge- are they in/not in for dinner? DS asking me every day if I’ve seen his keys or his wallet, coming down to eat just as I’ve cleaned the kitchen, etc!!! I’m sure everyone here can relate.

AnneOfCleavage · 10/07/2026 22:54

How lovely @LentilcakesSo glad it was a lovely day for you all.
Looking at your timings, I have booked a restaurant 3.5hrs after ceremony starts the same as you did so it seems I planned that about right. Ours is an afternoon ceremony so had to book for dinner but we also need to get back home as DD has v early start next day.

How did the interview go for DS today @Piggywaspushed?

@AnneOfCleavageeceb more important re timings is get there two hours before it starts as there will be a queue for the cap and gown and then the photos - the students are supposed to get seated about 45 mins before it starts.
We were there about 1hr 45 mins and it was rushed as we wanted to do our own photos then but didn’t have much time. Afterwards it was just too hot to stand around!
I hope you have an amazing day!! It’s def one for the memory bank.

AnneOfCleavage · 11/07/2026 09:14

That’s a great tip, thank you @LentilcakesWe were planning to get there early but now we will definitely get there with plenty of extra time as parking possibly will be a prob - thinking of renting a driveway for the day. Hers is a big cohort and not just her course at this graduation so gown queue and photos will take a while.
Yes it’ll be a day to remember for sure. DD and I went to DH masters which was held in the Sheldonian Theatre and it was an amazing experience. DD will be in Chichester Cathedral which we’ve not visited as yet so really looking forward to seeing it from the inside.

How did the interview go for DS today @Piggywaspushed?

He seems to think it went well but generally it is hard to tell. He said this one was a bigger 'proper' local paper.

He has another one on Tuesday for a job in Reading which is a bit closer to home.

Seeline · 11/07/2026 10:30

@Lentilcakes so glad you all had a good day!
@AnneOfCleavage thanks for the parking idea - I've just booked a driveway for DDs on Wednesday which means we won't have to worry about the infrequent park and ride service offered! DDs is on campus in the sports hall. Hopefully it will feel like a proper graduation and not school prize giving.

DD has had her fastest job rejection yet. She had an email confirming receipt of her application. In less than a minute she had the rejection email!! It was just a basic admin job, but she had still put time and effort into the application. She's getting very downhearted already.

Piggywaspushed · 11/07/2026 10:42

My bigger challenge than having adult DC in the house is now I also have 'adult' DH in the house permanently!

He has retired. This means no free lunches at work any more. He can't won't learn to cook. He doesn't really always want to eat the same as the DS's who will eat a fair amount of easy freezer crap and cook the same thing for themselves every Monday.

I may have to run away from home! Maybe I should go away to uni and pop back with laundry every so often!

AnneOfCleavage · 11/07/2026 10:53

@Seelinein some ways a sports hall is ideal as all seats will have a good view. Chichester Cathedral has lots of stone pillars and some seats have a completely obscured view of the stage so we’ll have to queue a long time to get a good seat. There’s no upper gallery seating so all ground level. Hopefully the TV screens will be aplenty.
Bless her re the fastest job rejection. That will only be a funny anecdote once a job is secured I’m sure and I wish her all the best and cross everything it’s soon. So disheartening when they spend so long on applications tweaking them just so.
@Piggywaspushedremind me. Is this DS1? He’s being so proactive with applications and interviews - I’m crossing everything for him too. What is DS2 doing? Did he study Sociology? Will he keep up his music and bands? I’m thinking he plays the euphonium from memory but then my memory is not reliable these days 😁

Piggywaspushed · 11/07/2026 10:58

No, this is DS2's search for journalism jobs! He did a history degree but yiu aren't misremembering sociology as he originally did a social science degree but swapped. He still does brass bands!

DS1 has a new job, starting Tuesday at a bus company. He has decided to leave his Dunelm uniform on the kitchen table...
