Thread 49 - Covid GCSE Cohort - The nights are drawing in...

Autumn 🍂 well and truly underway, has been chilly this week !

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

Ah, here you all are, thanks for the new thread @OrangeSpicedBun 🎃

@PaddingtonPaddington sorry to hear things haven't worked out for DD, but glad she's home and comfortable. As others have said please feel free to stay on the thread or drop in and out, if you feel comfortable doing so.

Thanks for the new thread @OrangeSpicedBun. Loving the new names, I did my best but the theme is hard to go with…

@PaddingtonPaddington sorry to hear that DD has left her course but glad it is obviously the right decision for her now. Hopefully things will calm for you all. Don’t feel you have to leave, although much of it is irrelevant to you we are all still here for all our DC taking all of their different paths.

OMG sorting out car insurance has been a complete nightmare now Ds has taken the car to Brighton. The quotes have been coming up as double last years. Then I read the small print and it said the car must be registered to the address where it's currently kept. DH is the registered keeper, not Ds and dh won't change the log book just for 6 months. Ds will be home in May for the summer and plans to do a year abroad. Finally we got a decent quote with admiral and they don't mind the car being registered to dh. Dh has spent all morning phoning insurance companies.

OrangeSpicedBun · 19/10/2023 17:46

That is useful to know @icanbewhatiwant ! Sounds a bit nightmarish

DS is now a driver! No car so will just add him to my insurance in some way or form, probably starting Christmas break.

ealingwestmum · 19/10/2023 22:16

Ah, that’s fabulous Eww, well done to him!

crazycrofter · 19/10/2023 22:18

Well done to ds @EwwSprouts its great when they can get around on their own!

I’ve managed to move ds’ test to 28th December at 9am. I can’t work out if it’s a great idea as the roads will be quiet or if it will take over Christmas week. And we usually keep very late hours that week 😬

PhotoDad · 19/10/2023 22:22

Congrats to @EwwSprouts DS!

EwwSprouts · 19/10/2023 22:33

Thanks. He is chuffed. Test was supposed to be Monday morning but was cancelled while they were doing the warm up lesson. So he's been here for a bonus few days, as it wasn't worth going back up, but a bit longer for the nerves.

EwwSprouts · 19/10/2023 22:36

@crazycrofter I would take it for quieter roads. Push it back into 2024 and will be more likely to be horrible ice.

286NeuerNahhhhhhhhmen · 19/10/2023 23:06

Great news @EwwSprouts! Ds’s test was also cancelled on the morning, it’s so frustrating. Thankfully they rebooked his for the following week so he didn’t have to wait too long.

Monkey2001 · 19/10/2023 23:36

Great news@EwwSprouts ! Happy driving. 🚘

Fiddlersgreen · 20/10/2023 00:05

@crazycrofter as far as I’m aware (nhs admin) they can be on the waiting list for more than one hospital. I’ve certainly called patients to book them in and they’ve told me they’ve had their procedure in another hospital.

@Oblomov23 I’d be suspicious of the Taylor swift tickets I’m afraid. I’ve seen a lot of posts in local fb pages and also my friend was hacked and they posted from her profile offering TS tickets. If you know anyone who missed out, point them in the direction of Twickets. Face value resale only. I’ve used them a lot, to buy and to sell when I could no longer attend. Will usually find a lot of tickets in the week or two leading up to a gig

Fiddlersgreen · 20/10/2023 00:06

Forgot to say congrats mini sprouts! Great news!

OrangeSpicedBun · 20/10/2023 00:38

Beepbeep to little @EwwSprouts well done!

Interesting tip re Twickets @Fiddlersgreen . I am on ticket buying duty for Liam Gallagher this morning, but I know it will be crazy. I don't understand why the venues can't cut out the re-sellers, it is such a greedy process!

craggyrat · 20/10/2023 08:12

Well done to your SS @EwwSprouts !

Seeline · 20/10/2023 08:16

Congratulations to your DS @EwwSprouts !

Fiddlersgreen · 20/10/2023 09:15

How did you get on @Monkey2001 ?
We got Liam tickets in the presale luckily

Monkey2001 · 20/10/2023 12:05

@Fiddlersgreen I was successful! DS asked me to get 2, but I was so surprised to be offered standing tickets on Saturday night (have only ever managed to get seats before) that I got 4 tickets as I am sure he will have friends who will want to go. I thought I was doomed when Ticketmaster told me I had to update my password and confirm my phone number, which meant waiting for various authentication codes, but was number 1,627 in the waiting room and am in very good standing with DS1 now!

Monkey2001 · 20/10/2023 12:07

@Fiddlersgreen which one are you (or your DS?) going to? I heard that the presale was even more challenging than the process today.

Fiddlersgreen · 20/10/2023 13:00

DH and I are going to the London one on 7th June. Yeah I think we were very lucky as I know a few people who missed out in the presale

crazycrofter · 20/10/2023 13:21

Well done @Monkey2001 ! I'm team Noel, who never sells out, so none of these problems getting tickets to see him in December 😂

DontCallMeBaby · 20/10/2023 17:04

I’ve lost the plot and can’t remember how to just watch a thread so I need to post instead. DD is coming home tomorrow - Avanti West Coast willing 😬- for about 2/3 of reading week.

EwwSprouts · 20/10/2023 20:21

Thanks for congratulations for DS.

I hope no-one has a DC trying to get home by train this evening. Sounds absolute chaos.
