What do you use for top and tail bowls?

The ones from mothercare are too big and I'm determined that dc3 is not going to use 2 cottage cheese pots like the other 2 dc. So what works well?

never ever used one. Why would you?
I filled the sink if I wanted to just top an tail my newborns

Or give them a good babywiping over

ilovesprouts · 09/07/2010 20:40

my dd got one but never used it

heymango · 09/07/2010 20:43

Just pop them in the bath at the end of the day - easier than topping and tailing IMO!

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 09/07/2010 20:43

I was never sure what the top and tail bowl that MIL insisted we needed was actually for

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 09/07/2010 20:44

And I misread your thread title therefore as 'What do you use top and tail bowls for'!

Babywipe bath!

lukewarmcupoftea · 09/07/2010 20:46

Used an old moisturiser tub for water for doing bums, just used a wet sponge for faces (or bath at the end of the day, ashamed to say I didn't bother washing face at the start of the day when they were really tiny, it was all I could do to keep my eyes open). So cottage cheese tub sounds about right.

Littlefish · 09/07/2010 20:59

I used two Lakeland plastics sandwich boxes

BooKangaWonders · 09/07/2010 21:06

Gu pots ! plenty big enough and you might even convince yourself you need a new set each day... (or they can just go in the dishwasher)

IMoveTheStars · 09/07/2010 21:08

just a normal bowl! you don't need the separate bits (I was so confused about that to start with) Just start at the top (eyes first) and work down, surely??

worldgonemad72 · 09/07/2010 22:27

never used it, i keep my sponge and soaps in it in the bathroom.

cyb · 09/07/2010 22:29

bath

Or

wet wipes

You are overthinking this

susitwoshoes · 09/07/2010 22:30

a top and tail bowl. It's not that big, is it? Or expensive.

UniS · 10/07/2010 21:41

ice cream tubs I think. it was along time ago and didn't use them for long, thh sink was easier.

BertieBotts · 10/07/2010 21:43

Can't you just ask a friend who's had a baby for their discarded ones? At one point we had hundreds of the things lying around (okay, two, but still more than I ever needed or worked out a use for).

HouseofCrazy · 10/07/2010 21:56

I have three kids and have never heard of top and tail bowls! I am intrigued!

Haliborange · 10/07/2010 21:58

The sink for topping and tailing. Put them in the bath generally, though.

This seems to be a new bit of baby paraphernalia, as I've never heard of them. My children had a bath each night as part of the going to bed ritual when they were tiny, and a face cloth for when they had dirty faces in the day.

4madboys · 10/07/2010 22:30

we had one of these for our eldest (almost 11yrs now) so they arent new! and we did actually use it for a bit but i only filled one half with water and used the other half to put dirty cotton wool balls in etc. started at his face and worked down.

not sure what happened to the top and tail bowl, as i never used it for the other three............

4madboys · 10/07/2010 22:34

actually thinking about it, my top and tail bowl came as a set with the baby bath and a step. the top and tail bowl disappeared, the baby bath became a toy box for a while! BUT we still have the step in the bathroom, getting daily use from ds3 and ds4 so at least part of the set proved useful

darcymum · 10/07/2010 22:37

I had one with dd1, used to once, load of rubbish, how do they fool us into thinking we need such a thing.
