Name tags

DD is starting nursery in September and I am absolutely not going to spend my summer sewing name labels into everything, particularly given that she'll outgrow it within a month!

Any recommendations for name tags that can be applied without too much effort onto different surfaces (clothes, shoes, toothbrush, bottles etc.)?

Laundry marker pens available in WhSmiths, sewn or iron on labels are easily ripped out so I write their names on the washing labels in the clothes.
Marker pen scratches of plastic things quite easily but sometimes leaves a stain and labels will wash off, you'll need to get these items engraved lol

Having spent an hour sewing tags onto DD's knickers (what was I thinking), I gave up and used a laundry marker right across the guesset, on the soles of socks and on labels. for her coat, even now I write it on the hem inside so that thieving gits other children don't mistakenly take it home with them.

DOH! Permanant marker as recommended by her first TA.

I used the iron on ones from easy2name and they have not come off - some have faded but you just iron another one on top. They also do sew on ones, ones you stick to the care label and ones that are like a pin that you attach to the label. There is a 10% mumsnet discount for them too.

Have you tried Clip ons - you can sew them on (if you're mad!) but they come with tiny little clips and the best way is to clip them on. They're really easy to do and really quick and they don't fall off. You can buy them from Nametag-it.co.uk . They also sell sticky labels for shoes, toothbrushes, bottles etc
