Toddler helping himself to breakfast

OK I'm probably going to get a roasting for this. My 2.9 son has recently started slinking out of bed, downstairs and by the time I wake up is in front of the telly having got himself a cup of water (chair pulled up to sink) and helped himself to yoghurt and fruit. He is doing it very stealthily as our room is next to his and I've left our door open to hear him but he sometimes managed to get past my radar. I am tempted to leave his cereal out and let him have a full breakfast. When do you let them do this? He's very careful, very rarely spills anything, completely capable of getting milk, pouring it out and putting it back again and shutting door (miles better than DH in fact.)

Oops not good. I can remember when I was about 5 my Mum coming home and hitting the roof when she found me making tea for my older brothers who had taught me how to do it.

Whoops. I did of course mean kamikaze.

DS1 (6yo) could get out of his cot from around 16mths (even with his boots/bar thing for his feet). He laughed at stairgates and other such devices. We had to rely on him learning what was safe.

I got up half an hour ago to: a tidied lounge, my water jug filled, some brioches on a plate and a big glass of juice poured.

I also have a coffee every morning but he knows he must not touch the coffee machine/microwave.

Teaching them early pays off!

I would absolutely not let my ds be on his own while I was asleep, especially if he was only 2.9 years! Its fine teaching your children to be indipendent etc but anything could happen while you were asleep. What if he was to choke etc.

I can't believe so many people on here are ok with this and would do the same.
