I was all set on using Bumgenius for the new arrival in September, but have unexpectedly been given a friends Bambino Mio cotton nappies collection with assorted sizes of wraps and a large number of cotton pre-folds (she had twins so there is a lot!) and nappy liners.

I've read on here that they are not the best at catching any leakage and that the wraps are not very good. She didn't have any problems but I probably will!

They weren't my first choice of re-usuable but as they are free then I wanted to try and find a way to make them work and give them a new lease of life.

I've read that Motherease Rikki wraps might be a better wrap, or that if all else fails I can use the pre-folds as boosters.

I'm at a bit of a loss as it's all a bit of a minefield and would really appreciate some advice

As they are free, I think you have got a bargain there! All I will suggest is buy a pack of Nappi Nippas to secure the nappies on to your baby - you wrap them round the baby and secure rather than just lay in the wrap as a pad - this will prevent leaks. You can download full instructions here: (BM own instructions do not mention this!)

By wraping the nappy around the baby and securing on, you should find minimal leaks (if any) and you probably won't need to buy any new wraps in the smaller sizes at all. I'd suggest try them and see how you get on before buying more.

Thanks Ariela, will have to start playing around with the batch that i've got to make sure i can do this

Just wanted to try and find an alternative and hopefully better solution to present to an already sceptic DH. I can see him running off down the road to the nearest disposables.......

Any other ideas out there?

Bambino nappy wraps aren't rubbish, but because the nappy pad is not held in place by anything then when the baby poos it ends up on the wrap so as long as you have several wraps (I'd say 6) you will be fine.

Prefolds get a bad press, but I find them fine and my ds2 prefers the fact that they don't add bulk over the thighs like other nappies.

Also they dry quicker than lots of other nappies and they go on forever. My prefolds have done 2 kids and can still be used for more.

Good Luck trying them.
