dreadful trapped wind and first tooth in 18wk old - are they related?

DS is 18 weeks today - his first tooth came through a few days ago and it feels like the next one is on its way? he's always been fairly windy, but the last few days trapped intestinal wind has been waking him regularly through the night, and he's farting like a trooper all day? his nappies have changed too - quite watery and smell sharp.

He was breast fed with occasional formula top-ups until 3 weeks ago when i stopped breastfeeding. He's now on cow and gate comfort 1 and seemed happy on this until 5 days ago when the wind started.

DD struggled with teething, but never had wind or bad nappies with it, so i've no previous experience! He seems very happy and well otherwise (have wondered if he's picked up a bug, but seems fine)

any thoughts?

My DS got runnier & almost mucous-y nappies when teething at 5 months, and got nappy rash too. That was how I discovered the tooth as it made me check his mouth - and there it was!

Don't know about the wind, though.
