Cot bumpers

Are cot bumpers safe for 5 month olds? DS has started rolling on to his tummy but hasn't worked out how to roll back yet and this morning he got his leg wedged between the bars. I seem to remember reading there is a risk of suffocation with cot bumpers but is that just for newborns?

I used a cot bumper from about 5/6 months for this reason but then I took it off again and ds1 had to judt learn how to get himself unstuck.
The risk, I think is if they move around alot and get the top of their head against the bumper, it would stop body heat being released from the head.
You'd also need to keep an eye for when he can stand as the cot bumper could be used as an aid for climbing out

I'm not sure - I think it might be inconclusive. As I am a paranoid PFB mummy, I bought airwrap bumpers as DS is a roller too. They're mesh and breathable.

same here, we have been co-sleeping up to now but I had to move ds to a cot as he crawls around on the bed! He happily sleeps in the cot but his hands/feet getting stuck seems to be the thing that wakes him, I ordered bumpers a few days ago. He moves around so much in his sleep, I'm sure a bumper will be fine.

I've put one on for the same reason and tied the strings in double knots, well out of dd's reach. I'll take it off when she can sit up by herself as I don't want her pulling up on it.
