My one year old son just will not go to sleep. if I pick him up, he snuggles into me and sleeps so he is OK. As soon as he goes back into cot he cries like he is having pins stuck into him, really awful. I just cant stand there rubbing his back any more. Its driving me mad. He is next door screaming his head off. What the fuck do I do?

pick him up, take him downstairs, let him snuggle

it's probably just a phase, best to go with the flow

Is there anyone else that can pick himup and cuddle him?
Can you try comforting him while he is still in the cot? cuddling him and maybe sit on the floor and stroke his head etc, through the bars so he is settling in the cot? It's difficult and it will pass.

Oooooh thanks. He ended up in my bed all night which I have never ever let happen with my 3 year old.

He wouldnt even sleep in the bed and kept launching himself onto me for a full on cuddle. This drove me mad cos I am 30 weeks pregnant so sore boobs etc - nightmare.

Nurofen seemed to do the trick, 15 minutes later he drifted off by himself next to me.

Thanks for your replies.

Think it is teething.

Red cheeks, dribbling nappy rash and clingy.

I was going to guess teething. When mine has a night of sleep refusal, it's either teething or congestion, and either way being able to sleep slightly upright (so, i.e., sleeping with her head on my chest) helps a lot.

Yours does sound like teething - hope tonight (a long way off, I know) is better.
