High back booster for 6 year old???

Hi, can anyone recommend one? She currently has a booster seat with no back. However reading the newspaper today there was an article about how these seats really don't give a lot of protection. So I want to change it but would like some recommendations!

we have the britax adventure which we're really pleased with. although if I had isofix i'd have got the britax kidfix instead

We got our's from Asda - it's a Graco high back and has two cup holders/pots. It's really ergonomic and has excellent pelvis and neck support. In younger children under 11, the recommend having a high back booster to 'cradle' them from side impact in particular.

we have a maxi cosi rodi xr for both dd and ds (6 1/2 and 3 1/2 respectively).

We have 3 Britax Evolva 2-3 for our 3!

Ds is the eldest and moans a bot about it, but I don't care, it's safer!

Is just the booster considered dangerous then?

luciemule · 21/06/2010 19:56

It's okay - it lifts them up to the same height an adult would be to make sure the belt fits correctly but a high back offer much more protection from side impacts.

A seat without a back is not as safe as on with a back. If the car is hit from the side the child could smash their heads against the window.

Mine are all in the maxi cosi rodi seats and they are great.

daisy243 · 21/06/2010 20:23

Do the seats you ladies have mentioned last until age 11/12 as they are or because you have to turn them into a booster?

We have the Britax Kidfix in DH's car as he has Isofix and a Maxi-Cosi Rodi xr in my car.

Happy with both, but DD's head is less likely to fall forward when asleep in the Maxi-cosi as it has a reclined setting.

Our school uses backless boosters, really annoys me, but people think I am obsessive when I mention it.

Portofino · 21/06/2010 21:01

Ewwww! I think our car has side air bags. I will check.....

luciemule · 21/06/2010 22:15

Mine have extendable backs to last until age 11/135cm.

Our car also has side window curtain air bags which is pretty cool. We love our volvo for all of it ssafety features.

Ixia · 22/06/2010 13:57

Side air bags won't protect your childs head, unless they are side curtain airbags. Also airbags inflate/deflate rapidly and they only work once, so if your car is in a multiple collision or rolls, you won't have any protection for the second impact. So it's a good idea to have the added security of a high booster.

luciemule · 22/06/2010 14:23

side airbags alone have actually been critised for being dangerous and hurting kids' necks - I mean the side curtain air bags. They are supposed to protect when in a roll and also to protect from glass.
