Natalie and Barry - Eastenders

Did anybody watch Eastenders last night where Barry found out about the abortion Natalie had planned. As somebody who would never contemplate an abortion unless it was a life and death situation, I felt very sorry for Barry (I know it is only a programme but it must happen). What do you all think?? How do you get over something like this if it was to happen to you? Could you get back to a marriage as it was before?

I think it's a dreadful storyline Joe. They are a happily married couple and he is obviously desparate to have the baby. It seems a great shame to me that the scriptwriters have decided this is a good plot development for one of the few stable relationships in the square (especially given that it is a long long time since the programme featured 2 parents who are still together and live with their children).

If I was Barry, I'm afraid I would end the marriage. I am actually pro-choice but I just can't understand somebody in her situation going for an abortion. (anyway, bet she changes her mind!).

Well said Croppy. Now, Bianca's abortion, that I can (personally) totally understand.

Well, there is the question of whether anyone on mumsnet, all of us thinking women, would REALLY want to be married to Barry Evans (in his silly green hat) and have the prospect of a small baby to look after as well...
Their financial situation has been precarious in the past, maybe the scriptwriters wanted to explore the issue of abortion for financial reasons.
Like Croppy, I am pro-choice, but would also never consider a termination in Natalie's circumstances.
I definitely think it's a plot device and something will happen to change her mind.
