I hope you can help me with something. My DS is 2.4 yr and is constantly hitting and throwing things. I think he's frustrated and does things to gain attention.
Our general tactic is to ignore the behaviour - I tell him not to hit or throw, because 'its not nice' and always make an effort to reward the nice things he does, kissing and cuddling, by saying 'its nice to kiss Mummy' etc. I'm trying to reinforce nice v. not nice things.
If he persists in doing the bad behaviour even if he's being ignored, we do the naughty step. But its really getting me down. Some days are worse than others, today being one of them. He wouldn't eat his lunch but wanted pudding so had a nap without much to eat (although I made sure he had a good snack afterwards) then the same with dinner. So its inevitable that his behaviour nosedived at the end of the day. But what about the other days when he's not hungry?!!!
He had an early bath and was just going mad - charging around, screaming (not in an upset way), putting his hand down the toilet, hitting me. So I smacked him. Then I started to cry, just couldn't stop - I feel I've let him down in some way, that I've failed him. And when I was crying, all he was doing was laughing and hitting me more! Honestly, if I wasn't so upset I'd laugh, its so ridiculous!
Any help GRATEFULLY welcomed!
