1 mo old only sleeps with us - are we going to be stuck with her for the next three yrs???

My 1 mo old daughter only sleeps if held. Once asleep I can put her in our bed where she stirs a little but eventually settles, but if I put her in her moses basket it is 100% she wakes up, no matter how deep she was sleeping. We don't mind her in our bed for the moment, but my GP said we are going to have a real trouble weaning her off our bed later. I don't want to be stuck with her in our bed for the next three years (another two months tops!).
Any good advice from anyone please?

You'll get loads of good advice here.. I have to run right now but remember, she is still only a newborn! She needs to feel you nearby..
Everything will change and just as you're getting used to it.. it will change all over again..

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter and enjoy every minute of it!

No i don't think so. I think this is a myth. children move when their ready and it is likely to be a lot sooner than 3 years. both mine did this and could sleep in a cot by around 4 months.

Your GP doesn't know what he's talking about. Nothing wrong with settling them in your bed at such a young age. I did it wit hboth, and both happily moved to a cot at about 6 months iirc, and both were in their own beds bfore 2. Ignore him, and enjoy this time

We swaddled DS when he was 4 wks and warmed the moses basket mattress slightly with a hot water bottle before putting him down to sleep. We also put rolled up towels on either side of him to make him feel more secure. He was happy to sleep in there from 4 weeks and we transferred him to his cot at 9 wks with no problem at all (stopped swaddling at 6 wks and put him in a grobag). You could try these things if you are concerned about him getting too used to being in bed with you.

Thank you for all the reassuring comments, 4-6 months is ok if there is a chance for a smooth trasfer after that. I'll just enjoy her presence in the bed then, while I can. Many thanks again, to all of you!
