4yo DS - should he wear pants or boxers?

My 4yo currently wears ordinary pants, they are getting tight so I am going to replace them. I don't know whether to get pants or boxers - what does your DS wear? DH says that boxers are more comfortable so I was wondering if I should get DS boxers as well? DS is not too bothered either way, I don't know what his friends wear - are children of that age bothered by "fashion"?

Thanks!

my dss wears pants and i have heard other boys laughing at him and saying that pants are for girls and boys should wear boxers! (obviously i put them straight and told them that girls wear knickers )

but to answer your question, if i had a boy he would wear boxers and yes, surprisingly 4yo boys ARE bothered by fashion!

whatever is the cheapest while you can get away with it, is my advice, which is probably pants.

Mine wears pants as do his friends at nursery. I've never thought about it.

Buy some cheap jersey boxers for him to try. One of my DS likes them, the other prefers pants.

If he rides his bike a lot get briefs ( pants) as loose boxers do let bollocks get squashed and "tangled" when leaping on and off bikes at speed as small boys do.

Personally I'd steer clear of Character pants at this age as the urge to show them off is still strong, and his class mates may tease him for showing off his spider man pants - or may think its cool, you never know with 4 yr olds.

I think I will get a mixture then.

Ouch at the bike riding injuries!!

DS1 wears pants, so do 80% of his mates they are 6
DS2 wears pants as do all of his friends that I know of he is nearly 4

DS1 started wearing boxers at about the time he went into Yr 1, so he would have been 5. He much prefers them.

DS2 however is 6 and still prefers pants.

I have no idea what their friends wear, although I would put money on it being boxers as DS1 is far more influenced by what his friends are doing than DS2 is

My ds has worn boxers from the start. Ostensibly because that's what his dad wears, but actually because miniature boxer shorts are the most enchanting things in the world!

The only think that he and his friends worry about is the character ones - one of his friends was teased because he had Toy Story pants in year 3. Ds is in year 4 and won't have any pictures on his pants at all.
