I wonder why they tiptoe back through the cave once the bears spotted them

I've not been able to read this since the unfortunate spoonerism with hunt and catch.

DD is just 2 but corrects me if I try to skip bits or change words! Why is it so mesmerising for them?

Sorry but I love it. If you're bored of reading it, just show them Michael Rosen's storytelling of it on youtube, it's brilliant, but now I can't read the book without mimicking his cockney accent.

piscesmoon · 07/06/2010 19:11

I love it-get them to do a lot of it with actions and expression.

verybusyspider · 07/06/2010 21:32

ds1 loves it (since he's PFB we've not got bored of it yet!) he came home from preschool the other day and drew me a map of the bear hunt so we 'could go and find the bear later'

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/06/2010 07:34

I loathe that book. DD went to school in Thailand and they really did go on a bear hunt. The school was large enough and they had phenomenal resources. All went well until they came to the cave. I had said in advance it was a bad idea to have a tall man in a tent dressed up as a bear. The resultant voiding of three bladders proved me right.

differentnameforthis · 08/06/2010 07:42

I won't make you go...that book bores me to tears & I refuse to buy it!

piscesmoon · 08/06/2010 07:54

It is actaully a very short time. If a DC loves a book then I go with it. It is much better than Thomas the Tank Engine which I loathed but read over and over again. DSs pleasure was worth the boredom.

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 08/06/2010 08:13

I hid bear hunt for a while.

Now I can recite the entire gruffalo without the book, and we're getting there with the gruffalo's child!

I feel your pain!

nickschick · 08/06/2010 08:15

Kreecher - thankyou for making me spray hot tea all over myself and poor ds2 whos just come to say bye to me

lovecheese · 08/06/2010 09:28

I'm impressed that they managed to find a tall Thai!!

The last page of that book is so sad - it makes me cry!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/06/2010 10:03

The tall Thai didn't exist, it was actually the head of year in a tent in a bear costume.

lovecheese · 08/06/2010 10:23

Seeker - DD says "Poor bear; bear's sad mummy". Empathy in a two year old.

Kreecher - poor kids! I bet they'll be in therapy later in life! My DD freaked when the massive blue bookstart bear was at the library!

seeker · 08/06/2010 10:25

lovecheese, I love your ds! My dd didn't realize that page was there until she read the book herself to her little brother because I always skipped it!
