Best Lullabies

DD1 is 7 weeks old and part of our bedtime routine is that i sing her a lullaby or two while we have a little cuddle. The problem is that my mind keeps going blank for songs to sing.

She does love it when i sing to her and i can see her little body relax and snuggle into my chest when i do but somehow it seems wrong to be singing the words to "Single Ladies" while she gazes adoringly up at me because it is the only song my brain has been able to remember the words to.

Any suggestions for some more appropriate lullabies would be greatly appreciated!

Get a book of nursery rhymes - you'll be amazed how many tunes you'll remember!

I sent many an hour singing 'Bobby Shaftoe' and 'Riding on a Donkey'. Oh, and 'Hush Little Baby' obv.

I agree, it's a lovely way to bond, and seems to comfort them at some primal level. (Gave me something to focus on during the endless hours of pacing with a colicky babe as well).

My mum used to make up a lullaby, (called lula lula bye land.)
Apparently she'd just sing any old words to the same made up tune each night. - How odd I thought once I was old enough to be reminded of it.
Sooo many years later I do the exact same thing to my DS. The same tune with the same starting line & then I just jabber on about the day & try to make words rythm.
Does the trick though (& has DH in fits of laughter in the next room hearing through the monitor. - singing about the cat & man down the road who's.....fat!)

I bought this lullaby CD which is really nice and not one of those annoying children's CDs. It's also go the words printed on the booklet ao you can learn them and sing along... I play it while I am giving DD her last feed before bedtime.
