Help! Cloth at night = ammonia pong and burns to nappy area (plus no sleep)

Could do with some help. 20 month DD has been clothbummed in the day for ages but just trying to get her into cloth overnight as well, now she's not quite so heavy-wetting.

I thought we were doing quite well but the last two nights I've noticed that she stinks like a hamster cage by the middle of the night (we co-sleep so particularly noticeable!). I assumed it was just because the pee has a chance to go a bit more stale but last night she was very restless in the small hours so I took her off to check whether she'd pooped. She absolutely stank of ammonia and when I got her nappy off her whole bottom was bright pink and looked as though it had been scalded or burned, the way it does sometimes when they've done a poo and you don't realise in time (is this proper nappy rash, despite not being a rash?)

I wiped her down and treated her with Weleda and put a disposable on, since we'd run out of night nappies by then yesterday.

Is this a cloth nappy problem? It was a fleece-lined Minki Huggle so shouldn't have been too wet next to her skin, plus actually it was pretty dry. She has had thrush recently and I've been prescribed a cream to put on, so could be a bad reaction to that maybe. Due to put it on again now so guess I'll find out ...

Any advice very welcome!

I found this when I used boosted flexi tots at night, the only one I use now is wee notions night notions at night!

Thanks for the reply Extensive Googling seems to think this might be a detergent build-up problem so I'm going to try washing with wash balls only for a few washes and see if that helps. Used a Bumhugger last night and seemed fine this morning. Would be a shame if it's the Huggle to blame as I am fond of those!
