Are social services going to get me?

What a day I've had! Does anyone else with 4DC under 8 feel totally overwhelmed sometimes?

Today, I took my 4DC and ds1's friend to the park, which was quite busy as its so hot. As kids do, they all ran around onto what they wanted to play. I had the baby with me and kept an eye on the others all the time. The park is enclosed in a fenced area btw. As I was tending to the baby for a minute, I lost sight of ds2 (3.6yrs). Before I knew it, a lady runs up to me asking if I have a 3 year old, so I ran over and there he was in the arms of some lady talking to the police. They asked my son if I was his mother, treating me with suspicion, as if losing sight of your kid for a minute was a crime. Took all my details, and left me feeling like a really crap mom.
So, now I'm petrified that social services will come round checking up on me.
Has it really not happened to anyone with lots of children at the park to have lost sight of one for a minute? Am I really such an incompetent mother?

I think it has probably happened to plenty of parents with only one child never mind 5 to look out for. My parents left me for about half an hour in a book shop when I was 18 months old. They each thought I was with the other. They were otherwise perfectly good parents. I have no knowlage about social services but I cant see why they would be very intrested.

This has happenend to DH with DD. Twice! Police called both times by the person who found her. No follow up thank the Lord. We also lost her at the zoo once. She was a runner

i loose track of mine all the time and only have 2. That is a bit odd that lady was talking to police rather than just holding on for five minutes. I've found lost children and walked with them til mum appeared. perhaps police man just appeared at random badly timed moment?

That sounds very weird to me. You were in a fenced in playpark, then your child is suddenly with a policeman? Did he tell the woman he was lost?

Was he still inside the fenced area? Dd2 escaped from the soft play area on Saturday, while I was looking in my bag for change for dd2. It has a locked gate, but some eejit had left the door open. The play area is in the middle of an arcade, so of course she was off straight away, investigating all the flashing lights and music.

Another mother found her and waited with her where she was until I came looking. Thank god. It happens to us all.

It's very odd if he was still inside the play area.
