How to deal with young children in a car with no air con?

Neither of our 11 year old rust buckets have air conditioning. I was wondering how other people deal with driving young children (DD is nearly 3) in a car with no air con. After an hour or so driving yesterday DD was red and soaked with sweat. Driving with the window open on the motorway is not ideal and DD doesn't like it either. What are your suggestions for keeping LOs cool?

covering the car while it is not in use is really worthwhile. i'd try and cover the entire thing if you can, not just the windswcreen.

if you start off cool, and open all the windows a few cm so you get a breeze going through you'll be fine

I spray mine with a fine spray of water (plant mister is good, empty cleaning fliud bottle well cleaned out is OK in a pinch).

at least you didn't have to drive with the heating on full blast (to help draw heat from the overheating engine)like we did today.

Wiggly, had to do that a few times when I had an old Saab 900 back in the 1990s.
Stuck in traffic, hot day, even hotter in the car

We have to do that in one of the cars wigglybeezer!

The windows were always opened when we were kids as my parents smoked (yuk!).

Fan a good idea.
