Anyone else`s kids go hyper an hour before bed?

My 3 yo DD tends to go hyper between eating supper and going to bed. She just can`t shut up and jigging and wriggling and sniggering then whining it is crazy. Is it just mine or does anyone else get this. How can I change it ? She is fast asleep now. It gets to fever pitch and then husband and I get stressed and start getting louder even the baby tends to get louder too.

My DD (5) and DS (7) do this between dinner and bed... I think its just tiredness setting in...

Yes. They stop doing it at age 5. Puppies, lambs and piglets do it too then crash out.

Try getting DD into a bed time routine from about 1 hour before bed. Do exact same thing at exact same time evey night. Worked for us.

Yep, every night pretty much, it ramps up when DH gets home and starts chasing them round the house (thanks husband!). Still, they do pretty much go down without a fight every night - agree that a routine is necessary - then being hyper is just part of the routine. Hopefully...

Yup same here with an almost 4 year old and a 2 year old. Hate when you see children being tucked in, having a story and going straight to sleep on cartoons - mine never do that.

Our bedtime routine:

Run around to get into bath.

Noisy bath

Run around to get dry / into pj's / brush teeth etc

Run around to get them both in their room and into bed (they share a room)

5 page story lasting forever with a million interruptions

Lie down, tuck in, kiss goodnight

One / both child(ren) sit up to say something

Possibly get out of bed to get something that's 'needed' or show me or dh something

Lie down, tuck in, kiss goodnight

Repeat the final 4 points for about what feels like the next 5 hours

Oh thank god for that then. Its just not like the adverts is it. used to be for about 3 months when dd was 2 but then it went away.

I used to call it the witching hour, I think all children have one at some point in the day. They do seem to grow out of it by about 7 ish.

Mine (5 and 7) just get extra silly and play silly run-around-and-leap-on-each-other games, which drives me nuts as in theory it's supposed to be quiet time. I think its tiredness plus they know it's almost bedtime so seem to feel a mad desire to live up the last moments of the day... To be fair, my 7yr old only follows his sister's lead so maybe when she's 7 they'll both stop??

We call it the six o'clock sillies and dd1 still does it sometimes - she's 17 next month! It seems to be the combination of food and over tiredness.

I used to call it the witching hour as well Dolly . When they got really bad I used to turn all the lights off in the house until they calmed down.

I swear my DD can not shut up. I stand there going shhhh and she tries but then starts gibbering and jumping about twitching. And repeating stupid questions over and over until I scream out a stupid answer.

dd2 (13mo)...... Crawls around at breakneck speed going for the most dangerous thing in the room - screeches when moved on - switches the tv off and on and off and on - hits her big sister if she looks at her the wrong way - refuses to have her nappy changed - howls when I go into her room and switch out the lights - head hits the cot a she's out.

At the same time dd1 is running around half undressed blowing raspberries at me !

We have conversations like
"What that Mummy"

"Its a tomato darling"

"It not ! It a poopoo"

and then the obligatory raspberry.

Yes. I will fight my children all day long to get off the tv/computer or try to get them to stop saying 'I'm bored' in a whiny voice and then suddenly, at about 5pm, they'll get engrossed in some fantastic, elaborate, make believe game for two hours. It's very odd.

Baths just make them loopy - I can't imagine what it's like having children for whom baths are relaxing and a wind down for bedtime!

mind you I probably shouldn't have let them all have half an Easter egg at 8 o'clock this evening

Mine too (five and just-turned three).Its as though I've just bathed a dog not a small child,they go totally bonkers.(while I sit on the bed with a face like this .thats a demented tired face in my case btw.

another here- dd aged 7 still mental from 7pm.Shes done it for as long as i can remember,and now ds 20mths does it too!
upsince- lol that is exactly how it is here-often till 10pm! Nightmare.

Yep, 2.8 year old DD goes crazy in the hour or so before bedtime. I'm betting that our DD2 will be doing the same. she's only 7 weeks old, so by my reckoning, we have another 5 years or so of mayhem before bed.
