Strip Washing

Ok, another random nappy question!

I have recently bought some new bumgenius and flips (thanks cheeksandcherrie and real nappy week!). I've seen people on here talking about strip washing when there are problems. Is it something people do routinely as well and, if so, how often. Want to prevent problems this time!

Thanks

I don't strip wash routinely - only when there seems to be a build up of detergent (use half what manufacturers want you to use, as long as you add sanitiser nappies will get clean) or nappy rash doesn't clear up quickly. DD seems to get nappy rash when teething but DS didn't do this. I occasionally wash a load of nappies at 60 instead of 40, and always put them through a rinse cycle before the main wash to avoid setting the ammonia/wee smell in the nappies - especially the fleecey ones.

Strip washing is simply washing without detergent until there are no bubbles in the water when they are going round the machine
