This is what ds1 wants for his birthday!
He is very mature for his years but i can't help thinking that a camcorder is a teenagers present and that kids should be kids playing with KIDS stuff for as long as possible iyswim !

what does he want to do with it?

does he use yours

if so how successful is his filmaking etc.

KBear · 02/08/2005 19:09

I might buy a secondhand one - lots advertised in local paper usually. I don't see why you shouldn't encourage him to be a filmaker - move over Steven Spielberg! I see your point about it being a teenager's present - your call there! Maybe promise him one when he starts secondary school or something.

if i could afford it, and he/she really wanted it, and i knew it wasnt something they would put away after one use, then, yes, i would.

I think so. It could turn into a great hobby/interest. I probably wouldn't buy anything too flash or expensive at his age though; and may look at second hand possibly. But it is an interest I would encourage if I could afford to.

can't help feeling no .. it sounds like such an adult / coming of age present .. but then I don't know your DS to be fair

MrsDoolittle · 02/08/2005 19:18

I don't think you'd have to buy one. At 10 years old soemone must be giving them away!

What do ten year old boys play with anyway? Got a ten year old's birthday coming up!!!

Is he likely to play with something else you buy him more than he would a camcorder?

We bought a new one before our recent travels specifically so the children could use it, and they all have, particularly dd2 who is 9. I wouldn't have got it for one of them though - it's ours in name even though we rarely use it. I don't like starting out on expensive presents - you can never go back!

Blossomhill · 02/08/2005 22:04
