DS nappy area smells really, erm... putrid

I've noticed a strange whiff for the last couple of days when I take DS's nappy off before bath. He's 2.8 btw. It's not a poo or wee smell, it's like dead skin cells or decaying flesh

He's bathed every day and the smell disappears after his bath but I noticed it again this morning! He has no nappy rash or anything but I guess it might be something to with the warmer weather/sweat? I can't really leave him with nappy off to dry everything out as he's at nursery full time

I slapped some metanium on his bum this morning to see if that helps but just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and what it might be?

Are his groin creases ok?

Maybe change nappy brand?

MoneyNoPockets · 29/04/2010 18:27

Nappy free time when he's at home.

Thanks MNP, yes I think groin creases are OK but I will check. Hopefully this weekend he can run around in the nuddy and get a good airing. So long as it's not a fungal infection or something?!

Hi Madam, no more drooling thank normal and all his teeth are pretty much through. I'm pretty sure it's him not the nappies

How is his willy? Is his foreskin red/sore? don't pull the skin back, but have a good look. If he has very tight foreskin and it's red/sore, you might just want to have it checked as it could (maybe, don't panic!) an infection.

MrsBadger · 29/04/2010 21:58

how is he with a potty? pants much less sweaty than nappies...

TheLemur · 30/04/2010 14:44

His willy seems fine!

Just to update you I've been putting on metanium alternating with sudocrem in his bum crack and that seems to have helped things a bit - I guess it was all too soggy in there

We are on the verge of potty training, I might go for it this weekend as I can't be doing with this smell all summer!

Thanks all for your help
