those of you that had noisy babies...

have they grown into noisy children? do you think it is affected by the family 'loudness' for want of a better word?

ds1 was not a particularly quiet baby but not overly vocal. now at four he is what i would consider a chatterbox, he is always gibering away to himself or the cat or his teddy, very rarely quiet although not a squealy child. whereas he has friends who only converse in a high pitched squeal.

but ds2 is 11 months and loves to squeal and shout. is this indicative of how he will be as a child? i dont think i can cope with constant squealing but if it is his nature i dont want to squash it and give him a complex about it.

Ds has a very loud shouty baby and he is a loud shouty 4 year old.

He will quieten down when you remind him but it usually lasts all of about 30 seconds.

Dh and I are reasonably quiet on our own but I have to confess my family are very loud when we all get together!

I come from a very shouty latin family and even if ds was quiet as a baby (which he wasn't) there was no way he'd end up being a quiet child, you have to shout to be heard in our family!

we are quite a quiet family, we dont shout even when arguing, ds1 and i both hate shouting. i think ds2 has taken his vocal ability after OH ah well, i just have to learn to love it.

My DD wasn't particularly 'chatty' as a baby but now will talk for Britain - she can be very loud too (but so am I so what can I expect). Luckily not too much shrieking unless in a group who are all hyper. DS has been very babbly right from the start and even 'talks' in his sleep. Not much recognisable yet but I think he is going to be a chatterbox too.

toccatanfudge · 29/04/2010 13:05

no it's gone the opposite way.

DS1 was INCREDIBLY loud (so loud that after he was born (I had a CS) they took him through to the "nursery" on the ward for me to get some rest - as he wouldn't settle without me and I was exhausted.

I managed to crawl out of bed, get a cup of tea got back to my bed to find my lovely DS1 (now 9 1/2) back at my bedside with the words

"he's too loud he's disturbing the other babies"

ARGHHHHHH

He's not quiet now - but he's not particuarly loud either.

DS2 was very quiet and placid and now at 6 never stops and never shuts up

DS3 going the same way

yes ds2 is saying dada inhis sleep. ds1 never talked in his sleep til he was properly talking.
