how to tell a 22 mo that I'm going away for a 2 week work trip?

I'm about to go away on a two-week long-haul trip for work. My 22 mo is very clingy at the moment, and sometimes frets when I go to work in the morning. His dad is a SAHD and he goes to nursery a couple of days a week.

How do I explain to ds that I'm going away but WILL be coming back! (am reading "Owl Babies" to him lots in the hope that he gets the message that mummy does come back at the end of the story)

Thanks

My DH worked away a lot when ds1 was about the same age adn what we did which really helped him was made a chart with a photo of him and DH at the top and then boxes underneath for each day dh was going to be away. Then at bedtime each night he stucka sticker in a box to count down to daddy coming home - he LOVED this and I think it helped him understand that although he was gone he was coming back and a visual cue when.

That sounds great! I have a stash of stickers somewhere. Thanks for the tip.

When DH did this (DD was a similar age) we recorded DH saying Goodnight to DD and I played it to her every evening - she loved it.
