for my degree, i must spend one term abroad and since my ds is only three, i have to go with him. should i notify student finance that i will be spending some time elsewhere or let them pay the childcare money?

Well, you might come a cropper if they ask you to provide receipts for that period of time, since you wouldn't have any to give them... However, I've been claiming for 2 years & never had to give receipts so maybe you would get away with it. I imagine if they caught you out you would have to pay it all back.

They have my childcare providers confirm the sums received, so be careful. Not sure if that's to do with the LEA or the centralised student finance though.
