Am I doing the right things?

Hi All,

I would appreciate your opinions as I am a bit unsure if I am doing the "right" things with my 13 week old DD.

Is it ok to let her play by herself (not unsupervised but without my interaction) on the gym mat? She really enjoys it, laughs, gurgles etc.

Is it ok to let her seat in the bouncer and play with the dangling things without interaction? (for about 15 minutes)

How long is it ok to let a baby cry wihtout attending? e.g. while I do the bottle she is sometimes crying for 2 to 5 minutes as I have to prepare it?

I do play with her on the other times, e.g. singing/playing with music, flicking through baby books which she loves, plain holding and cuddling etc.

Please reassure that above is ok since you all must have more experience? or should i do more or different? It is not lack of wanting just she doesnt sleep at all during the day and sometimes phones rings, work to be done in the house etc.

Any other ideas how to stimulate a 13 week old?

Thank you very much for your advise!

G

yes, yes and yes. As long as you are playing with her and interacting well with her, of course there are going to be times when you aren't able to join in. It's great that she's happy to explore things on her own too. I'm sure you're doing a great job. Give yourself a bit of a break. You are only human!

You're doing fine. Lots of fresh air too now that the weather is nicer. DD was fascinated by blowing leaves at that age, we spent hours walking around the park whilst she gurgled to the leaves

Could you not take the phone off the hook or send calls straight to an answer machine whilst she sleeps? I tend to leave DD playing whilst I do a quick whizz round and get any noisy things out of the way before her naps. At 9 months she still has 2 long naps per day. She should be getting some sleep during the day at that age though. How is she without any?

Thanks for the tips. She sleeps maybe 20 minutes during the day. Goes to sleep in the evening around 10 and wakes up around 7 in the morning.

If we go out she always sleeps in the pram, car seat, never at home though. She is content and rarely cries (only when hungry!)

Phones, music, noise, hoover etc dont wake her.

Thanks again.

You're doing great, chillax!

You are doing well. Please don't feel the need to hover over her every minute or "stimulate her" all the time. It IS bit hard to know what to "do" with a small baby. Be glad she can amuse herself,
